The year’s best books, selected by the editors of The New York Times Book Review.
It was Chinese New Year last week, all the Chinese students in CDL celebrated together and had a really good time. I was kind of upset at the beginning of that day, because all my friends back home are on holidays and celebrating with their families, but I still have homework and class. But when my friends and I went to the Chinese restaurant and had dinner together, I enjoyed it a lot and forgot my bad mood, we were so excited and we even celebrated with the people in the restaurant.
Chinese New Year is the most important traditional Chinese holiday, celebrated at the turn of the Chinese calendar. We also call it Spring Festival, the literal translation of the modern Chinese name: it goes from the last day of the last month of the Chinese calendar to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month, making the festival the longest in the Chinese calendar. And also because the Chinese calendar is “lunisolar”, the Chinese New Year is often referred to as the “Lunar New Year”.
From the 1st day of the Spring Festival to the 15th day which is the Lantern Festival, people celebrate different things and eat different food each day. Moreover every year has a different animal symbol, for example, the horse is the symbol of 2014.
The movie Frozen was in theaters during Thanksgiving in the US, and I finally got the time to watch it recently.
Yes, it is another “princess movie” by Disney but it certainly has a lot more than “prince and princess living happily ever after”.
The part that is very different from the typical Disney princess films for me is when the same old climax comes out – that someone can only be saved with the magic of “true love”. In fact, this time, differently from what I thought, instead of the kiss between the male and the female, it is an act of love between sisters. These girls don’t wait around for princes to rescue them with kisses anymore.
The voice for the main character in the film, Anna, belongs to Kristen Bell, who had also given her voice for the main character in the TV series Gossip Girl. Also the songs from the film, such as Let It Go and Do You Want to Build a Snowman? have become very popular.
The film in general is very warm and full of happiness. I did not find it too touching, however my roommate started to cry at the very beginning of the film when she watched it on her laptop!
It was my 3rd time in Crans-Montana, but the first time skiing this year… Finally I got to ride “normally”. There is nothing easier than skiing! I don’t fill comfortable snowboarding. All the small hills on the slopes were mine ;). Time passes so quickly when you do something you like, plus it is a good way of releasing energy and for some hours forget about IB. My best part of the week-end was social hour after dinner on Saturday: we had a little snow ball fight-game, where the boys won! Now I am back to school as well… must finish my maths IA!
Villa Ecureuil is famous for its passion for fashion, so I decided to dedicate this post to the Paris Fashion Week which took place last week-end in France.
