A healthy diet…

As summer is getting closer, most girls have started following a diet although they are already skinny enough. Here are some eating tips for a healthy diet, I hope it will be useful for you guys ;))

Healthy eating tip 1: Set yourself up for success
To set yourself up for success, think about planning a healthy diet as a number of small, manageable steps rather than one big drastic change. If you approach the changes gradually and with commitment, you will have a healthy diet sooner than you think.

Healthy eating tip 2: It’s not just what you eat, it’s how you eat
Healthy eating is about more than the food on your plate—it is also about how you think about food. Healthy eating habits can be learned and it is important to slow down and think about food as nourishment rather than just something to gulp down in between meetings or classes.

Healthy eating tip 3: Eat more healthy carbs and whole grains
Choose healthy carbohydrates and fiber sources, especially whole grains, for long lasting energy. In addition to being delicious and satisfying, whole grains are rich in phytochemicals and antioxidants, which help to protect against coronary heart disease, certain cancers, and diabetes. Studies have shown people who eat more whole grains tend to have a healthier heart.

Healthy eating tip 4: Enjoy healthy fats & avoid unhealthy fats
Good sources of healthy fat are needed to nourish your brain, heart, and cells, as well as your hair, skin, and nails. Foods rich in certain omega-3 fats called EPA and DHA are particularly important and can reduce cardiovascular disease, improve your mood, and help prevent dementia.

Healthy eating tip 5: Limit sugar and salt
If you succeed in planning your diet around fiber-rich fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and good fats, you may find yourself naturally cutting back on foods that can get in the way of your healthy diet—sugar and salt.

Happy Chinese New Year !

chinese new year

It was Chinese New Year last week, all the Chinese students in CDL celebrated together and had a really good time.  I was kind of upset at the beginning of that day, because all my friends back home are on holidays and celebrating with their families, but I still have homework and class. But when my friends and I went to the Chinese restaurant and had dinner together, I enjoyed it a lot and forgot my bad mood, we were so excited and we even celebrated with the people in the restaurant.

Chinese New Year is the most important traditional Chinese holiday, celebrated at the turn of the Chinese calendar. We also call it Spring Festival, the literal translation of the modern Chinese name: it goes from the last day of the last month of the Chinese calendar to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month, making the festival the longest in the Chinese calendar. And also because the Chinese calendar is “lunisolar”, the Chinese New Year is often referred to as the “Lunar New Year”.

From the 1st day of the Spring Festival to the 15th day which is the Lantern Festival, people celebrate different things and eat different food each day. Moreover every year has a different animal symbol, for example, the horse is the symbol of 2014.

Cirque du Soleil in Geneva!!!

Last Sunday, Ecureuil girls and other boarders had an amazing experience to watch Cirque du Soleil in Geneva. All of us were so into it and we pretty much enjoyed it.

The show we watched is called “Dralion”, it was really special for me because it was actually inspired by Chinese culture, and I always watch this kind of performance on TV but never had an opportunity to watch it live, now this dream came true.

The music was SUPER COOL, I even recorded it and now I’m listening to it hahahaha… I really love this type of music, because it makes me have the feeling of going back to an ancient world. Then, my favorite part was the four people playing with trampolines. It was really dangerous, they needed to jump from the top of the high wall to the trampolines and then back to the top. The height was like five meters, I think, everyone was nervous and Juliana was screaming… hahahaha!

I hope we can have another chance to watch Cirque du Soleil in the future!

Getting close to the end of the first marking period

As most of us are applying to universities, this first marking period is still crucial. We have done a lot of work about TOK presentations, extended essays and applications.

This Friday, the first marking period will end. Meritas (Ecureuil) girls can have a short break finally, but before that, there are two more days, so let’s carry on with our works!

I suppose all of us are working very hard and trying to get good grades. So, good luck guys!!!

Keep calm and carry on.

SNACK TIME!!!

Inspired art trip

Finally, I am writing my first post this year!

A few days ago, both IB and AP Art students went to an amazing and quite inspiring art trip which included an art college visit, a Bag Art show and a photographic exhibition.

In that art college we viewed the undergraduate art show: some of the undergrads invented many impressive art works with beautiful colors and super cool functions. For example, there was an entertainment tool for iPad which looks like a small wooden cylinder with a hand shank, but if you put it on your iPad and start to turn the hand shank, it will play music and make a very cool figure on the screen. And the next place was interesting as well, it is called Coup de Sac. All of the exhibits in that gallery, such as clothing, furnitures and paintings were made from plastic bags, the ultimate symbol of our globalised society. And the theme of the gallery basically tells us that art is from our everyday life.

A taste of the ocean

Meritas girls enjoy their holidays very much! We are here in CDL during the “Ascension” long week-end… Today we went to a restaurant which is called café de centre in Geneva. The sea food there is super good and super fresh, we ate so much and we spent almost 4 hours there. The restaurant is distinguished because of the location and the French cuisine. We can feel the passion of French people towards life, no matter if it is sea food or dessert.

Spring spring spring!

Everybody in Meritas is looking forward to the upcoming season.

Temperatures started rising again from last week. Although it cools down a bit sometimes after rising, it still shows that we are getting closer and closer to spring.

On Saturday my roommate and I were woken up by some birds singing outside our window. We were a bit angry at first, since it was so early in the morning, but that was also a sign of spring coming.

According to the weather forecast, the temperature is going down again in a few days and it is going to rain, but as people say, “If it rains in spring, it is going to get warmer”. Let’s all hope that the temperature is going to rise faster and let the season of hope arrive sooner than we imagine!

CHEESE FONDUE IN MERITAS!!!

On Saturday night we decided to cook cheese fondue in Meritas, because all of us didn’t have dinner and we all wanted to sit together and chat with each other.
So we made cheese fondue with some potatoes, mushrooms, and we put some garlics inside so that the mushroom did not stick together.
It was really tasty and traditional. We had so much fun and we were celebrating the upcoming ski holidays.
We are planning to cook it again, come and join us ! ! !
