Happy new Persian year!

Did you know that the Persian new year, Nowruz, is celebrated on March 21? I have only known for the last two years, because our Nilgoun is from Iran and this year, too, she had the possibility to celebrate the new year with her family, who came to visit.

Nilgoun told me that it is a holiday you celebrate strictly with close family members and that seven food items whose name begins with S in Persian must be arranged on the table for the celebration. They are: wheat/barley/lentil sprouts; a sweet pudding; the dried fruit of the oleaster tree; garlic; apples; sumac berries; vinegar.

nowruz

“Nowruz is the day of the vernal equinox, and marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. It usually occurs on March 21 or the previous/following day, depending on where it is observed. The moment the sun crosses the celestial equator and equalizes night and day is calculated exactly every year, and Persian families gather together to perform their rituals.

Although having Persian and religious Zoroastrian origins, Nowruz has been celebrated by people from diverse ethno-linguistic communities for thousands of years. It is a secular holiday for most celebrants that is enjoyed by people of several different faiths and atheists, but remains a holy day for Zoroastrians.[41]”  (from Wikipedia)

’tis time for goodbyes!

It is Friday, December 19, and there are only two people left in Villa Ecureuil: Ingrid, who will take her flight tomorrow morning (very early!) and myself…

This means that almost all the Ecureuil girls have reached their destination: home for the holidays!

Wishing you all a well-deserved break… Have fun, relax, revise! And enjoy being with your beloved ones 🙂

IB2, take a rest, as Mock exams are coming soon!

IB1 can relax, as the true horror will start next year  😉

AP and Maturité, good luck and don’t stress too much!

Wish you all good grades, true love, loyal friends… and letters of acceptance to universities you wish to get in!
I hope you will have an amazing Christmas and New Year party, either with your family or with your friends! Wish you all the best and good luck!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Going, going… gone!

In Villa Ecureuil at 19:30 on Friday, Oct 18, I am the only one in the main house…! And Elina & Emily are the only two students left in the Annex. The time has arrived for everybody to enjoy the first break of this 2013-2014 academic year!!

What are the plans for these days off? I heard… seeing friends, of course staying with parents and brothers/sisters, enjoying good home-made food and the specialties everyone misses, and… sleeping in! Sounds good to me!!
