This weekend the girls from our House did a lot of things:
A few of girls, Katia, Muzoon, Rina and Runa went to EuropaPark; Paola went to see her family in Paris and others just stayed in Geneva and had a relaxing weekend, studying and sleeping…

This is the last picture, sent from Paola. She visited Monet’s garden and house in Paris. She described the visit as ‘so much culture’. I am happy she had fun catching up with her family and friends in Paris <3

I hope everyone else had a good weekend, and wishing all a safe trip during their holidays!

What a weekend!!

Good afternoon,

For this weekend, we had couple of pictures that were sent from the Ecureuil boarders.

Here is the first picture from Runa. Her friend, Assyl from LY 25 had her birthday this weekend.
This picture was taken in Geneva.
They went to Silk Road restaurant. From the pictures, they look like they had a blast!
From the left, there are Inara, Danya, MD, Iza, Assyl, Yulya, Sonya, Amal, Liza, and Runa.

Here is the second picture from Katia, with Paola on the right side. It was taken in Versoix, by the lake side.
Even it is cold now in Switzerland, they are still enjoying the view of the lake during the weekend 🙂

This is the next picture taken by Jiusi.
In the picture, Charcy is taking her free time after school to help the preschool teachers to take care of the kids.
Such good and responsible helpers they are!

This is Michelle, my roommate, taken by me. I swear I never seen her out of the chair when even it is after school, social time, or the weekend. She is always studying, doing her best to pass her first year of IB and I am sure she will do well in every subject!
I respect her so much for studying, as she says ‘Studying loves me, and I love studying’.

This is the last picture, of Paola’s and my phonee.
This weekend was not so great when you break your phone even if you didn’t drop it and found it in your bag just like that….

I hope everyone had a great weekend and can’t wait to see more pictures about what the boarders,my family, will do this week and on the weekend!

Hello!!

The picture above was taken in the garden in the rainy weather after our House Competition. It was the Cheer Competition, and we got the results this afternoon – we ranked 7th, but we made our best effort and enjoyed the night anyway.
(In the picture, there is Rina, Katia, Paola, and Kanoko)

For the next blog piece, I hope to get more pictures of girls having their awesome time in the boarding, in school and while visiting Geneva!!

The Escalade… What is it?

If one lives in the area of Geneva, it is impossible to miss the Escalade race – which, by the way, just took place on Saturday Dec. 5 and in which many CDL students participated. However, the real “Escalade” festival is happening this week-end!

L’escalade tradition began in the night of December 11, 1602, when the Duke of Savoy attempted to surprise-attack the state of Geneva in the darkness of the night at 2:00 am with his army. The Duke’s idea was to let his best soldiers secretly climb (“scale”) over the Geneva’s fortification walls to get hold of the city gate from inside, open it and let the troops in. This is where the word escalade comes from – French “escalade” translates as English “scale”, or “climb”.

The Pot of Hot Soup
There is a legend which tells a story of a woman called Catherine Cheynel. It says that while cooking a soup, she was lucky enough to have noticed the attackers approaching from below and poured a large cauldron of hot soup on them while they were climbing on the walls. The noise awakened the entire city and its militia successfuly defended Geneva from the Duke of Savoy’s army.

As a reminiscence of this moment, a special chocolate pot stuffed with marzipan candies is being ceremonially consumed every year as the hallmark of the Escalade celebrations.

Here is a picture of the marmitte de l’Escalade:

Car show!

Incredibly enough 😉 some of our girls are fans of beautiful, powerful cars, so they joined a big group of CDL boarders to go and visit the Car Show in Geneva last week-end.

Amazing cars! I bet that anyone would have enjoyed walking around such beauty!!

Thanks to Elena, Alisa and Nilgoun for the reportage

Geneva Time

There are a lot of things boarders can do in Geneva on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons! For example, during my free time, while it’s still warm I like to walk the streets of the Old Town. There are many interesting churches and museums there. You can also find lots of cafes and restaurants.

The other place you can visit is Geneva fountain!

And the last place, which I find very interesting, is theRussian church, which is not that easy to find, but i think it’s worth it even if people follow a different religion… just to know and understand the culture of other people!

I hope this was useful!

My week-end

I want to share with you my experience of going from Geneva to Versoix on roller-skates. First of all, google lies about the time it takes you. It is only around an hour, no more than that; on the other hand, it is actually better, because it is not that far… Starting from the Geneva train station, we skated next to the lake! It was a sunny day and the view was amazing, but for some reason we couldn’t see the mountains. Anyway, most of the time they are  visible, so actually it wasn’t a big deal. Another half of the journey was next to the road. I thought that it was very long. I remember when I was taking the CDL bus to Geneva and the road seemed to be too long, but actually it is not, I realized. And this is another good news for me!!!  At the end my friend and I went to the Versoix lake to have lunch. It was very nice, home-made food, mmm… 🙂
I really enjoyed that day and I hope we will repeat it!!IMG_0929 1964854_832060853478115_643975025_n
