Web based editing tools

Explore the possibilities offered by online browser-based editing tools. Start with Pixlr (pixlr.com) and try others like fotor.com, befunky.com, picmonkey.com or ribbet.com. Make a post on what features you used and appreciated offered by those online editing tools along with the result (image) with an explanation of the setup.

Editing can also be done online with video. Try wevideo.com, wideo.co and weavly.com. You can download any video from YouTube with a clip converter or downloader. Once completed embed the media to a new post called My first montage.

Photoshop Mosaic

To visualize the different effects possible with Photoshop we will create a mosaic. Make a new A4 landscape base background on Photoshop with a 72 dpi. Take a picture from the Internet that must be a square.

Fit five copies of the picture in vertical applying each time a new layer with a new effect. Choose each time an effect from a different category so that the surrounding pictures do not have an effect from the same category. You can use effects in the same category but you must use each effect at least once.

Once completed, upload the PSD file to Moodle and make a new post with a PNG copy. Name and describe starting from the top right of your picture each effect you used.

Game advertising poster

As an exercise, you will design a poster to advertise a computer game, it can be an existing game for PC/console or similar of your choice. As posters for these types of game do not exist it must be entirely made up and most of the information will not be known.

You could use the online photo editing tool www.pixlr.com or any online photo editing tool available (detail the one you use if it’s different from pixlr).

The poster must be in A4 format (you will need to find the correct dimensions). Make sure that you do not miss any of the essential parts, each on a separate layer.

The poster can be mostly graphical but should contain at least:

  • Picture of the game
  • Name of the game Ÿ
  • Age limit of game (PG, U, etc.)
  • Platform (PC, Mac, PS, XBOX, Ouya etc.)
  • The name of the producer, writer, developer or similar
  • At least 5 other layers/components

The completed poster must be posted as a page and not a post.
