This year’s international award (+ hike) has truely been a great experience. Not only have I become better friends with the people in my group, I’ve also learnt so many new things such as mapping skills, how to be organized, how to control a compass and above all, team work. At the beginning of this year when I joined International Awards I didn’t really know what it was going to be like, and whether it required a lot of work or not. Throughout the year I have been working to fill up each of the three sections to pass this award. For my community I helped out at lego-club every friday afternoon in the primary, if I hadn’t joined this International Awards I would’ve never done that but because of this award I have done many things outside of my comfort zone. The main thing that I have learnt throughout this award is teamwork.
At the beginning of this year I wasn’t very close with the people in my group, we had talked before but never actually worked together. After this award I don’t know why I was never real friends with them before. I find it great that we all help eachother out so much even though we had a few ups and downs during the hike. but that’s what teamwork is all about, learning to cope and work with the people around you. Whenever we talk about it now we’re all able to laugh about it and forgive each other which is really great.
During the hike I discovered a hidden talent! I didn’t know this before but I’m quite good at reading maps and finding the way through tiny footpaths
Looking back at this year everything has gone so fast and it seems like only yesterday that we were all sitting in the class room writing down the dates of the hikes. It all seemed so far away and now it’s finished! What a great year this has been! I never knew you could combine fun and learning in such a great way! Thank you Ms. Wilson, Mr. Corbin and Mr. Hetherington for all the things you have taught us.
SEE YOU NEXT YEAR
