This year’s International Award hike has been such an amazing experience. Coming into it I really hadn’t used the skills the hike had required, such as map and compass reading, cooking, and tent building. Throughout the preparation and the hike itself I became very familiar with all these skills and learned a lot. I know 2 days of hiking doesn’t sound very enjoyable but it was very fun. Getting to spend the time with your friends and get closer to the ones you don’t talk to as often was great. My group, RAPBAK DJCREW, got along really well. We all took turns with the tasks and managed to get everything done while still having a lot of fun. We shared a lot of laughs on the trip and made some memories we won’t forget. To sum the hike up it was a lot of hard work but in the end it was all worth it.
Not only did the hike portion teach us a lot, but so did having to complete all three sections of the award. To complete this part of the award I took piano lessons for my skill, did tennis for my sport, and volunteered at the Primary school’s Lego Club. This taught us commitment and that if we continue to work at something we can improve.
I’m so glad I joined International Award and I would do it again if I could.
