WORLD OCEANS DAY!

WHY CELEBRATE WORLD OCEANS DAY?

A healthy world ocean is critical to our survival. Every year, World Oceans Day provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve the world’s oceans. Oceans are very important:

  • They generate most of the oxygen we breathe
  • They help feed us
  • They regulate our climate
  • They clean the water we drink
  • They offer a pharmacopoeia of medicines
  • They provide limitless inspiration!

NOW EACH OF US CAN GIVE BACK

Participate in a World Oceans Day event or activity this year and help protect the ocean for the future! It’s up to each one of us to help ensure that our ocean is healthy for future generations. World Oceans Day allows us to:

  • Change perspective – encourage individuals to think about what the ocean means to them and what it has to offer all of us with hopes of conserving it for present and the future generations.
  • Learn – discover the wealth of diverse and beautiful ocean creatures and habitats, how our daily actions affect them, and how we are all interconnected.
  • Change our ways – we are all linked to, and through, the ocean! By taking care of your backyard and helping in your community, you are acting as a caretaker of our ocean. Making small modifications to your everyday habits will make a difference, and involving your family, friends, and community will benefit our blue planet even more!
  • Celebrate – whether you live inland or on the coast, we are all connected to the ocean. Take the time to think about how the ocean affects you, and how you affect the ocean, and then organize or participate in activities that celebrate our ocean.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

It’s fun and easy! This site was developed as a free resource for everyone around the world to use:

Despite the huge challenges facing the world’s ocean, by working together we can support a healthy ocean that is able to sustainably provide for the billions of humans, plants, and animals that depend on it every day. On World Oceans Day, people around our blue planet celebrate and honor the ocean, which connects us all. Get together with your family, friends, community, and the planet to start creating a better future. Working together, we can and will protect our shared ocean. We hope you will be a part of this growing global celebration!

Gardening Update…

Last few chilies and tomatoes transplanted today… no more land available in our garden… potatoes are growing bigger and bigger and taking all the space ?

The boys are doing an amazing job, watering and looking after their plants on a daily basis.

It was a long journey… started at the end of February. The boys have researched what type of vegetable/fruits can grow in this season and in this part of the world.

They have chosen their seeds and planted them with enthusiasm and care.

Many of the plants died due to the bad weather condition and only very few of those seeds are now healthy plants.

The boys have certainly learnt how difficult it is  to “fill a plate with food” and they are now more aware of the hard work required behind every product we eat. In our hearts we hope they will set a good example to their peers and there will be less wastage of food…

House Assembly: Values!

This evening, during our Wednesday House Assembly we discussed about values and their importance in everyone’s life.

After a short introduction, the boys have been asked to reply to the following questions:

  • What are values?
  • Why are values important in life?
  • Which values do you think we are trying to promote in our Boarding community?
  • How would you teach values to someone such a younger brother/sister  for instance?

These are some of the values that we consider the boys are constantly exposed to simply by living the Boarding experience. We believe it is also essential to show clearly what are the ideas behind our programme and make sure the boys learn to name these crucial elements for a healthy and happy life.

The boys have been also asked to share their answers and choose their “favorite” value… this is the outcome:

courage, trust and autonomy

It was amazing to see that despite the young age, all the boys agreed that the most effective way to teach values is by setting the example… an important warning for all the adults gravitating around them!
