Taha is our resident Léman 1 poet. It has been a passion of his for some time and he enjoys reading it but has not yet experimented much with writing his own. Taha did us the pleasure of reading some of his favourite poems at our recent Epic Boarding Concert

This summer, Collège du Léman will partner with the Juventus Academy to provide a unique opportunity in Geneva.

The Juventus Academy Geneva Training Camp is open to youngsters, boys and girls, aged 8 to 18, regardless of whether or not they already play competitive football. The method adopted by J-Academy for teaching children the skills to play football closely follows the children’s own development as young people, from their introduction to the game to physical maturity.

The camp offers a perfect environment for student fulfilment. After training sessions, Boarding students will have the opportunity to benefit from the international Summer Camp ambiance during evening activities and week-end excursions.

Today is a favourite day of the year for many students across the world, however, most do not know about it.

If your teacher is nice enough they may observe it. This day is aimed at giving children a little time back to explore things instead of homework. Having time to meet with friends, discover a new passion or get to know nature better (not to sit and play video games). This day is observed twice a year and is in reaction to studies by Standford University who found that students in America are doing on average 17.5 hours of school work outside of the classroom.

Each year along with the multitude of activities and excursions we offer at the weekend. We also offer trips to different destinations around the world.

This year so far the trips have been to Disneyland, Surfing in Fuerteventura, Paris, Stuttgart, Rome, Barcelona and South Africa. Trips still to come this year are to Madrid, Athens and Monaco.

These trips are a great way for students to visit countries within Europe and further. They are able to do these with their friends and also be able to learn about cultures and give back to societies. The most recent trip to South Africa seen the students travel through the country taking in the sights and learning about the culture. They also gave back to the local community by visiting an orphanage to play with the children, cook for them and help with maintenance. You can see the short video of this trip below.

This Sunday we had a trip to France to have a game of Lasertag. 45 students were in attendance with 7 from Léman 1.

Mikhail proudly came first in each of his games and overall between all the teams. It was a fast paced highly energetic activity which everyone enjoyed.

The concert within Victoria Hall was a wonderful event.

The majestic venue was the perfect place for Daniel to showcase his talents. He performed amazingly each of his pieces of music which received a standing ovation. It was wonderful to see the event supported by so many Collège du Léman staff who got to see Daniel in a different perspective outside of school. Friends from the Boarding House, along with his House Parents were able to share this celebration. Well Done Daniel.

This weekend our Léman 1 House Captain, Daniel LOZAKOVICH will be holding a concert in the Victoria Hall Geneva.

This will be a charity concert in aid of The BLACKSWAN foundation.

“Rare diseases affect 6% to 8% of the world population and approximately 500,000 people in Switzerland. The majority of these conditions affect children and in three out of four cases have a fatal outcome. The quest for specific drugs is a priority, especially as the effectiveness of certain rare disease drugs has been demonstrated in the treatment of most common diseases.

The BLACKSWAN Foundation was established in Switzerland in 2010 to contribute to the development of research on rare and orphan diseases worldwide. The Foundation supports research on all different types of rare and orphan disease, which makes its vision unique and helps in finding new solutions that can assist a large variety of projects”

We are very excited about this weekends concert by Daniel.

Daniel is our current House Captain in Léman 1. He is a very charismatic and sociable young man who has made vast accomplishments in the music world. As he is Grade 12 he will be leaving us this year. This concert will be a nice way for Daniel to say goodbye to Collège du Léman and an opportunity for the school community to see his talent in action.

Last month we had another House Competition.

It was to take a photograph with the theme of demonstrating Values.

The boys had many ideas and we spent lots of time in our House Meeting trying to think of a way to show this in one photograph, without explanation needed.

• We knew that we wanted to have all of our boys participating to show solidarity, friendship and family.
• We wanted to all wear our House Hoodies to show teamwork, membership and belonging.
• We wanted to show what we thought where important values to have, of Honesty, Respect, Empathy and Humbleness.
• We wanted to show how these values come together, become a part of each other to create a bigger picture (like a jigsaw) and demonstrate the values we want to see at CDL.
• We then decided to edit the photo into black and white to demonstrate humbleness and that the focus of the picture was not us, but on the values shown.

Time was then spent finding cardboard, cutting out the jigsaw pieces, drawing and then painting them. This was our entry.

Well done to the boys and their hard work as we placed 3rd.

Every Tuesday we are fortunate to experience the culinary delights of a new country.

This week it was India which was a delight for all. We have one student from India in Léman 1, who said “It was a bit like home, but it was a lot less spicy…….. but it was nice of them to make the effort”

Each Wednesday we have our House Meeting. This is a time in which the whole house comes together and we share the announcements for the week and the achievements of the week. We also then follow a pastoral programme in which a topic of the month is chosen.

This months topic will be Goal Setting.
