Their Last Boarding Assembly

As all of the Franconis boys will be graduating this year, tonight was their last Boarding Assembly!

Looking good under the sun on their way to campus.

Boy band vibes.

Having all six of them in the same photo! A rare occurence.

A lovely rendition of Habanera to start the assembly off.

Jules and Jeff from Leman presenting France! (Behind the scenes look: they argued for about an hour about which characteristics defined the Frenhe)

Nowruz Mubarak!

While this greeting is a little late (Nowruz was on Monday evening), we celebrated Nowruz with our community of students this evening by enjoying Irani food as our cuisine of choice for tonights International Dinner!

Wellbeing Pillar 4: Online Safety

As we continue with Pillar 4, this evening in our House Assembly, we discussed Scams, Security and Identity Theft.

Our Advocate, Nadim, led us through a Kahoot quiz that had us answer the following questions:

  • What is the strongest password?
  • ______ are messages that try to trick you into providing sensitive information
  • When shopping online, which payment option is generally the safest?
  • Facebook can freely use your photos if you do not decline this in your privacy settings- true or false
  • What does “Accept all cookies” mean?
  • What is catfishing?
  • What is the best way to know if a website is secure?
  • How can you be found online?

Nadim wondering who answered “a lovely snack” to the questions about cookies.

The Kahoot was both fun (the Boys can get quite competitive) and informative, and went a long way to promote our understanding of how to keep our data secure and how to accurately identify threats to that security.

Relax & Ride.

It was a quiet weekend at Franconis Boarding House. Some of our students went to visit their families and the others stayed with us to relax.

Nadim & Karim enjoyed their Sunday afternoon at the Spa with their friends of Boarding.

Omar went with his family to ride and improve his snowboarding skills.

Wellbeing Pillar 4: Online Safety

In our House Assembly this evening, we kicked off our 4th Wellbeing Pillar – Online Safety!

Nadim is our advocate for this months pillar and led us through a quiz that asked us the following questions related to Online Life vs Real Life:

  • How many hours per day do you spend on your phone?
  • Which social media do you have?
  • Thinking of your followers – do you know them all?
  • On a normal day, do you speak more with friends in person, or via your phone?
  • Do you use your phone in the last 30 minutes before sleeping?
  • From what age do you think a young person should be allowed on Instagram / TikTok / Snapchat?
  • Do you think people only show a ‘good side’ of life on social media?
  • Have you ever experienced something negative online?
  • Are we conscious of how much time we spend on our phones – do we spend an equal amount of time living offline?

Discussing some of the negative experiences that we have had online allowed us to learn from others about how to either avoid or handle different situations.
Additionally, the question of what age should an individual be allowed to have various forms of scoial media sparked a conversation about what is ideal and was it realistic.
It was interesting to reflect and discuss these questions that have become increasing pertinent in this age of digital technology and social media.
