Meri and Radi’s Bulgarian Presentation

Our monthly assembly is a time when all students and staff come together in the same room to learn about what’s coming up in the next few weeks. Students also participate in the assembly in various ways.

Today, it was Radi’s and Meri’s turn to give a presentation about their country, where they talked about their culture and traditions. Their presentation was amazing, and everyone was captivated by the interesting details and engaging way they shared their heritage. Please see some pictures below.

Reading time!📚

At Portena, all eighth graders come together to read twice a week!

During these sessions, students can choose their own books. This freedom makes reading enjoyable and encourages exploration of different genres.

This reading habit not only improves literacy skills but also creates lasting connections among students. We’re excited to see the positive impact on our Portena community! Happy reading!

A Weekend of Adventure at Portena! 🧗‍♀️🏇🤸‍♂️

Dear All,

During the first weekend following the October break, our girls had the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities, including rock climbing, horse riding, and stretching. In their leisure time, some chose to explore the city of Geneva, while others preferred to remain at home to relax, complete their homework, and prepare for the upcoming week. It has been a busy and enjoyable weekend for everyone involved.

As we conclude this weekend’s activities, I would like to extend my thanks to all parents for your continued support and encouragement. We appreciate your involvement in our community and the positive impact it has on our girls. Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead filled with joy and success.

Best regards,

Portena team.

Induction ceremony of National Honor Society (NHS)

Last night we had the opportunity to attend the official induction ceremony of NHS with two of our students.

For those who don’t know, the National Honor Society (NHS) is a club for high school students who are not only smart but also show leadership, do community service, and have good character. If you have a strong GPA and are involved in school activities, you might be invited to join. It’s a way to celebrate students who are doing great things and encourage them to keep it up.

We are happy to inform you that He HE (Mei Mei) and Vice VERCELLI have the opportunity of having a role this special day. Bice is the secretary of this program at CDL so she had the opportunity of giving a wonderful speech and Mei Mei  joined as a new member.

Weekly meeting and pizza night🫡🍕

Tonight’s house meeting in Portena was both productive and entertaining! It’s always great to gather and ensure we’re all on the same page, but this time we added a fun twist with a Kahoot quiz to reinforce our house rules.

For those who may not be familiar, Kahoot is an interactive game that tests knowledge in a fun, engaging way. Everyone eagerly grabbed their phones, and the competitive spirit kicked in! The questions ranged from the essentials like quiet hours and kitchen cleanliness, to others like the values of the school.

As the meeting wrapped up, the delicious aroma of freshly baked pizza filled the common area. We had a variety of toppings to cater to everyone’s tastes, from classic pepperoni and cheese to veggie and even a few adventurous options. The spread looked inviting, and the excitement was palpable as everyone lined up to grab their slices.

Please see some pictures below.

Best,

Portena team.
