Mr Jacob Wrapping up wellbeing pillar 1!

Mr Jacob used this evening to speak to the Grade 10 boys and for them to showcase some of the project they had done, during the first pillar of the wellbeing program.

Kevin has used this pillar to try to monitor his water consumption over the last 4 weeks, keeping a diary of how much water he drank a day.

5k to 20k, what an incredible achievement Arsenii !!!!

Remember Arsenii, who only started running in November, as one of the Founding members of the running club. He did his first 5 km in 2021, and what a huge achievement that was….. well he has just blown that out of the water and has just completed his first 20km run

Arsenii has completed the 20km in under two Hours, and has returned to the House with the knowledge, that every athlete experiences at some point, that our biggest limiting factor to physical exercise is our own minds. Arsenii told us this morning that 4 months ago he never thought he would ever run more than 10km, now he is planning a marathon before the end of the school year, combined in a challenge against Mr Tom, who is going to see if he can cycle round the Lake, while Arsenii does his marathon and see who finishes first, all for charity.

Iyowuna takes the win in the CDL fitness challenge.

We have a challenge for month, and we have been set a fitness Calendar to try and attempt each day. Arsenii has been hitting them hard this week, and tonight it was the turn of Mr Tom, Iluwona, Hamza and Nico to sprint 100m.

GO GO GO

The team in full sprint….. Iyuwuna takes a convincing lead, but the photo doest show the 2 seconds head start he took. it was then a close race between Mr Tom and Nico for 2nd. Hamza putting in a solid effort to come 4th.

Happy Holidays from All the Olympus Team

From the Whole Olympus Family, we wish you a very happy and healthy Spring Break with your families. It has been a tough and demanding year for all, I wish you a very restful time together and look forward to seeing the boys back for the final part of this school year…….. Happy Holidays

Stay Safe…….. Online!

Tonight we brought Pillar 4 to a close, with a stay safe workshop aimed at the informing the Boys of the dangers of online texting, and the risks of sharing pictures of ourselves online.

There was shared input from all the Houses to create the Video, with pupils giving their perspectives on the dangers of the online world. Mrs Jody from the counselling department created the video, and afterwards we looked at a quiz, opening our eyes to many of the laws attached to online content,  I think we all agreed, we were unaware some of these laws even existed.

The Boys were given a reality check on some of the stats from teenagers, and how the expectations many “believe” others have to send pictures of themselves online.

These meetings with the Grade 12 are precious, as they will soon be leaving and moving onto their new lives at university. These Well-being sessions work not only as a tool for the boys here at CDL, but also help prepare and give them methods and means to cope and be prepared for the independence that awaits them in a few short months……..

Well-being is Everywhere

As Pillar 4 of the Well-being program comes to an end, the G12 boys sat with Mr Tom and discussed their individual projects. One of the boys researched into how clickabit is used to grab our attention online, while other chose to research their friends on Google…… Luckily with very little effect.

Mr Tom and some of thoe boys have started to do 15 minuted of yoga every evening.

Even some of the more difficult positions, left the guys feeling relaxed and clam after their session

We think Fransisco was actually asleep by the end of this one.

What Goes Online…….. Stays Online. Pillar 4, Online safety.

Tonight we looked deep into the World Wide Web, and explored how safe the information we innocently share with our friends, really is. We looked at the impact that our actions and social media posts have on our future and the effects it can have on our careers.

We looked at how seriously we take care of our Privacy setting and our passwords. I think all the boys were aware of how often they “should” change a password, not so many stuck to this rule……Something I think we are all guilty off.

The boys were also given examples of social media posts that had cost people their jobs, or negatively affected their careers because of content posted years earlier. The boys then researched  on their own to find similar situations for us to reflect on. We then used this time to select the individual projects for the guys and make a plan for our community project.

Friendship keeps us Well-Beings!

As Pillar 3 now comes to an end we look back across the topic of friendship and what the House has been focusing on over the past 5 weeks. We have explored the topics of peer pressure and personal experiences of this. We have looked at the impacts of toxic friendships and how to avoid them, and also the differences between encouraging and pressuring. This has been a fantastic pillar that the boys have all shown great maturity while taking part. We all hope as a House the boys can learn from this and take these experiences on with them, as they move forward in CDL and there young lives.

As part of a combined individual project and a House project, each of the guys were asked to take a photo with their friends, and then describe their friends in 3 words on the back of the photo. It was nice to see the common theme of trustworthy and loyalty coming up. The boys also made a Friendship chain with what a friend meant to them written on the rings. The boys did a fantastic job with both of these projects and it is displayed proudly in the House.

Above is an example of Fransico and Vova’s Friendship photos. Vova is the house Prefect and sees Francisco as a trustworthy, respectful and funny. Well done boys, thank you for sharing this with us.

Our Student of the week…….. Nico

This Sunday we wanted to highlight some of the amazing work done by one of our students Nihad (Nico) Rustami. Nico has shared some of his drawings with us over the weekend, and his school projects and I am sure you will agree they are very good. Nico has aspirations of being an architect in the future, and he looks to me as if he is on the right path to succeed.

This was another of Nico’s projects from the week, highlighting the times we live in, and the effects of wearing a mask on our perceptions. This is a very powerful project and I think you can agree it is a great piece of artwork.

Sandstorm Ski Day for the Boys

The boys were treated to a very different skiing experience on Saturday, when they traveled to Les Crosets and Morgins to Ski. As we drove through the mountains, and neared the ski resort the sky turned red and began to rain sand.

This phenomenon occurs very rarely, and is caused by sand taken up into the atmosphere from the Sahara desert, falling as rain. The sand caused the sky and the snow to turn red, and was an extremely strange atmosphere to ski in. That said a great day was had by all the students, and they cant wait to get back into the mountains next week.
