Every December, Geneva honors L’Escalade, remembering the thwarting of a Catholic Savoyard attempt to conquer the Protestant city.
The celebration includes diverse traditions, such as breaking the “marmite de l’Escalade,” a chocolate cauldron filled with marzipan sweets. The eldest and youngest participants unite, striking the cauldron together to unveil the hidden treats inside.
The youngest member of the household is Bella, and the eldest is Lola. With great enthusiasm, they joined hands to break the chocolate cauldron.
