Building Positive Friendships………

We all have friends, but how often do we really think what they mean to us? Tonight the Grade 12 boys sat with Mr Tom and discussed Friendships and how to make sure we are surrounded by positive people. To identify this we have to go to the beginning, to the foundations we need to build a friendship. From the discussions we had the all revolved around a relationship that is built and based on Mutual respect for each other, the word RESPECT was brought up more than anything else.

The boys split into two groups and brainstormed…… One group talked about what they thought were the characteristics of a Positive friend and the other group did the same for a Negative friend. The groups list almost mirrored each other at opposite ends, and again the word respect and loyalty were top of the list.

The boys were then asked by Mr Tom, to write on a thin piece of card what a true friend meant to them, and what attributes they look for in a friend…….it will be no surprise that the most common answers were Trust, Loyalty and Respect. The boys are all very aware of the need for surrounding themselves with positive friends.

We finished the evening assembly of as usual with a small in house competition. This week, it was all about the power of the mind. We took two members from each grade and Challenged them to a memory game. They had 30 seconds to look at 30 items on the table and then 3 minutes to try and remember as many as possible.

Grade 12 were the winners of this competition, getting 17/30 items on the list. The boys showed great teamwork, tallking to each other and splitting the table so they could work together to get the best result possible. Well Done Grade 12…. 100pts

I like to Ride my Bicycle, I like to Ride my Bike

Sunday was a beautiful day, a group of boys from the House and Mr Tom went for a local bike ride around the local area. The weather was amazing and the views to match, and if you look closely you can see Mt Blanc poking her head out in the distance of this photo.

Fransisco was ahead of the group leading the way, the boys spoke of  how amazing the local woods are and their desire to someday go camping, this is something we will definitely look into in the future.

The boys had a little history lesson on the ride, as we came across and old defensive post from the Swiss Army, here you can see Ryunosuke having a good look inside the small quarters for 3 men.

There were some uphills and some downhills, even though David seems to still argue this, he remembers it all being uphill.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

This week we listened to the words of Jack Johnson and decided to take steps to be better at Recycling in the House. We have always recycled in the Olympus Boarding House but we thought that we could do better, and what better way to motivate the boys than some healthy competition.

As is the case with majority of the planet, plastic bottles are a not in short supply in the house, so to encourage the boys to recycle their bottles every time they have finished them, we are now offering 1 House point per bottle recycled, these points will go towards the overall House Competition.

As you can see we have had a successful first week, and the Grade 10s are well ahead.

Mr Usher goes Virtual!

This was our First Virtual Boarding assembly, Mr Usher spoke to the whole boarding community, Mr Antonio introduced us to the Second Pillar in our well-being program and Mr Rob gave us some news from around the world.
