CDL 2km Run – Manuel

Manuel participated in the CDL 2km Run on Friday afternoon, and posted one of the best scores in his age group!

Well done, Manuel!

A message from Coach Jamie is below:

“This message is to congratulate all those who came with us to the sports centre this afternoon to compete in the 2k run. It was wonderful to see so many talented athletes enjoying the sunshine and completing 5 laps of the track in lightning-fast times! We had very nearly 60 runners – what a great turnout, I am sure you have set us off brilliantly in the Nord Anglia Global Sports Competition.

However, the results don’t get posted until Monday, so if you didn’t manage to join us, you can still do 2k in your own time this weekend and tell us about it here. Remember, parents and house parents are also very welcome to join our team so please feel free to encourage your family to follow in your footsteps and join the CDL team, they can also upload their times using the same method.
Once again, a huge congratulations to everybody who participated. Have a great weekend – you earned it!”

Devices and Sleep!

We all have heard that, and we all do it… But this explanation is so concise and straight to the point that it made us all think about it and wonder about a change of practice.

Smartphones are great devices but they need to be taken into account carefully. Overusing it becomes a worrying practice.

And when it comes to sleeping, we are probably talking about the most essential function of our body. Neglecting it is a major mistake that can lead to serious damage if not addressed.

Sleeping is great, delicious and the key to a healthy life.

Wellbeing Wednesday – House Dinner 🍝 🇮🇹

This evening, with the help of Loris, Erik, Manuel, and Antonio, we had our first House Dinner of the 2021/22 academic year.

The boys helped the House Parents prepare two delicious pasta dishes, using fresh and local ingredients. Antonio also prepared bruschetta and Loris prepared salads.

For dessert, the boys enjoyed a well-deserved ice cream.

This meal was a big part of educating the boys about the importance of a healthy body, and healthy minds. It was fantastic to see them enjoying the meal as a family at home, laughing and joking throughout, but also seeing how satisfying it was to eat something they had planned and prepared.

Also, thank you to Mr Usher and Mr Salva for coming to visit us in the Boarding House!

BRAVI TUTTI! 🇮🇹

How can sleep affect your brain?

Sleeping is definitely one of the most important functions of our body and it plays a key role in the regulation of all the other systems.

Lack of sleep provokes an unhealthy balance which can have visible effects in the short and long term. Obviously, one bad night of sleep is not enough to hugely disrupt our “machine” but several nights, in a row, without proper recovery can lead to several health problems and a dramatic lack of energy.

Hand in hand with it we also used our session to introduce our Boarding Counselling team who challenged us to try a few minutes of very simple meditation. The aim was simply to allow us to relax and it is visible that some took the challenge seriously while those in the back row, were quickly overwhelmed by the benefits of meditation and the help it provides to fall asleep.

All in all a curious experience for some and we will surely continue to work on this in future sessions.

Wellbeing – Pillar 1 – Nurturing Healthy Bodies and Minds

Welcome to the first pillar of our Wellbeing Programme – Nurturing Healthy Bodies and Minds.
If we don’t look after ourselves in healthy ways, other areas of our lives can be negatively impacted. Our aim with the wellbeing programme, is to introduce a balance to our lives, to help us to reach our full potential and most of all are happy and healthy. This pillar we can split into two parts:
Healthy Mind
This is how we relax, switch off, de-stress, and deal with the pressures of school and everyday life. I would like to encourage our students to use their free time positively and use something they are interested in as a form of relaxation. This could include anything from sports, music, reading, walking, or art.
Healthy body
This is all about keeping fit and healthy, as well as what food we put into our bodies. Our students are able to achieve this achieve through the wide range of sports, activities, and clubs that we have available for them.

There are 2 points I want our students to come away from this pillar with, and I want our students to think about how we can factor in these 2 points into our everyday lives:

  1. How can we use our hobbies to de-stress?
  2. Why is sleep is important?

Biking Activity

Mr. Nathan took some of the boys into the woods over the weekend, and they had a great time. After a long and stressful first week at school, there is nothing more refreshing and positive than getting out into nature with your friends and enjoying the fresh air.

Well done boys!
