Weekend Activities: Horse Riding, Gardening, and More at Our Boarding School

This weekend at our boarding school, students had the opportunity to engage in a variety of exciting and enriching activities. For those with a love for animals and the outdoors, horse riding was a highlight, offering a chance to bond with the horses while learning essential riding skills. Gardening enthusiasts also had a productive time planting and maintaining the school’s green spaces, while others got their hearts racing with fitness activities designed to build strength and endurance. In the kitchen, budding chefs honed their culinary talents, preparing delicious dishes and experimenting with new recipes. Intellectual minds came together in the chess club, where strategic thinking and friendly competition were the order of the day. Finally, adventurous spirits took to the climbing wall, testing their courage and skills while enjoying the thrill of reaching new heights. The weekend was a perfect blend of physical, creative, and mental challenges, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy and grow from.

Wrapping Up Kindness: The Gift Box Appeal

Today, our boarding school community came together for a special tradition: the annual Gift Box Appeal, where students wrapped gifts for children in need. This year, the gifts will be sent to poor families in Eastern Europe, bringing a little extra joy and hope to those who are facing difficult circumstances.

The Gift Box Appeal is a beautiful reminder of the true spirit of the season—giving to those who need it most. For our students, it’s not just about wrapping presents; it’s about making a tangible difference in the lives of families facing hardship. The pride and fulfillment that comes from contributing to this cause are evident in everyone’s work. This tradition of kindness continues to grow each year, and we’re excited to know that these small acts of generosity will bring joy to children in Eastern Europe who may not otherwise experience the magic of the holidays. Please see some pictures below.

Life After CDL: Graduates Share Wisdom on University and Beyond

Last evening, we had the privilege of welcoming two former students back to our school for an inspiring talk on “Life After CDL.” The two alumni, who have successfully navigated the transition from high school to university, shared invaluable insights with our current students about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Their visit was a refreshing reminder of the lasting bonds between CDL and its graduates, as well as a fantastic opportunity for our students to hear firsthand what comes after graduation.

More than just a Q&A session, their talk was filled with personal stories, tips, and encouragement to help students feel confident and prepared for the next chapter of their academic journey. For many of our students, hearing about the experiences of former CDL students who had once sat in the same classrooms provided not just guidance, but a sense of reassurance that they, too, could succeed in the world beyond our school. Thanks for coming!!!

More Than Just Pajamas: The Power of Friendship in Boarding School

Last weekend, some girls from our house had pajama party at a nearby villa, and it was a perfect example of the deep friendships that can flourish in a boarding school environment. Most of the group was Brazilian, which added an extra layer of warmth and energy to the evening. Everyone wore matching black shirts and black-and-white plaid pants. They spent the night cooking together, singing along to their favorite songs, and sharing stories, all while enjoying each other’s company.

A brief weekend getaway to Lucerne 🤩

This weekend, the girls from Portena had an unforgettable experience in Lucerne. It was the perfect opportunity to disconnect from school and enjoy some well-deserved downtime!

The weekend was filled with stunning views and exciting activities. One of the highlights was taking the cable car up to the top of Mount Pilatus ⛰️, where they were treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the city and surrounding lakes. Meri and Radi’s Bulgarian Presentation

Our monthly assembly is a time when all students and staff come together in the same room to learn about what’s coming up in the next few weeks. Students also participate in the assembly in various ways.

Today, it was Radi’s and Meri’s turn to give a presentation about their country, where they talked about their culture and traditions. Their presentation was amazing, and everyone was captivated by the interesting details and engaging way they shared their heritage. Please see some pictures below.

Reading time!📚

At Portena, all eighth graders come together to read twice a week!

During these sessions, students can choose their own books. This freedom makes reading enjoyable and encourages exploration of different genres.

This reading habit not only improves literacy skills but also creates lasting connections among students. We’re excited to see the positive impact on our Portena community! Happy reading!

A Weekend of Adventure at Portena! 🧗‍♀️🏇🤸‍♂️

Dear All,

During the first weekend following the October break, our girls had the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities, including rock climbing, horse riding, and stretching. In their leisure time, some chose to explore the city of Geneva, while others preferred to remain at home to relax, complete their homework, and prepare for the upcoming week. It has been a busy and enjoyable weekend for everyone involved.

As we conclude this weekend’s activities, I would like to extend my thanks to all parents for your continued support and encouragement. We appreciate your involvement in our community and the positive impact it has on our girls. Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead filled with joy and success.

Best regards,

Portena team.
