Our Girls Shine at the Football Tournament!

Today was an exciting day as the U19 private schools football tournament wrapped up the season. We’re so proud to share that our girls, Chihana, Radi and Nerea, took part in this awesome event! Watching them play was a real treat, and we love seeing them dive into activities like this. Sports aren’t just about winning, they’re about having fun, staying active, and learning important lessons like teamwork and determination.

We always encourage our girls to try new things and embrace sports, and it’s moments like these that remind us why. We’re so happy to see them growing stronger, more confident, and making lasting memories. Huge shoutout to Chihana, Radi, Nerea, and all the other girls who played today. You all rocked it, and we couldn’t be prouder!

Reading time 📚

At the beginning of each week, the Grade 8 girls from Portena dedicate some time to improving their reading comprehension skills. This practice helps them become more effective readers, as they focus on understanding the material at a deeper level. After their reading sessions, they reflect on what they’ve learned and write about their insights.

It’s a great way to start the week and build stronger literacy skills!

Dinner at Home: Indonesia Edition

Tonight, we had our monthly dinner at Portena, this time it was Indonesian food!

It was a great night with tasty food, laughter, and good company. We enjoyed delicious fried rice with just the right amount of spice and tender chicken skewers with teriyaki sauce. Also, the girls gather around the table in a relaxed, informal setting, where they can unwind and chat with their housemates. It’s a time to share stories, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company.

These meals bring the girls closer, making them feel at home and supported. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the best moments happen in the simplest settings—like sharing dinner with friends.

Lots of love,

Portena team 💘

Building Healthy Habits: A Sweet Start to Our Wellbeing Journey

This week at the boarding house, we had a house meeting focused on the 4th wellbeing pillar: healthy habits. We explored the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle, from staying active to eating nutritious foods and getting enough rest. It was a great opportunity for everyone to share their tips and ideas on how to incorporate healthy habits into our daily routines, and it sparked some insightful conversations. The discussions were not only engaging but also practical, offering small yet effective changes that everyone could start implementing right away.

As tradition goes, after every house meeting, we treated ourselves to something sweet, and this week’s treat was waffles! The warm, fluffy waffles were the perfect way to end our meeting, allowing everyone to unwind and enjoy each other’s company. It’s always nice to have these moments to relax, bond, and celebrate our little victories in creating a more balanced and mindful lifestyle. Looking forward to next week’s discussion and another delicious treat!

Volleyball Weekend!

This past weekend, the girls from our boarding house took part in an exciting volleyball tournament! Players were mixed into different teams with other students from our school, giving them a chance to meet new people, work together, and enjoy the game. Even though many had never played together before, they quickly found their rhythm, showing great teamwork, effort, and sportsmanship.

The games were competitive, with teams facing off against schools from different areas. Every match was filled with energy, cheers, and exciting plays that kept everyone engaged. Our girls put in a fantastic effort, winning some of their matches and proving their skills on the court. Some of them even came back home with medals, a well-earned reward for their hard work and dedication.

A huge well done to all the girls for their enthusiasm and effort! A big thank you to the organizers, coaches, and supporters who made the event possible. Our boarding house girls walked away with new friendships, unforgettable memories, and an even greater love for volleyball. We can’t wait for the next tournament!

Portena Team!

Honoring International Women’s Day!

Today we took a moment to recognize and appreciate the contributions of women in all aspects of life. It is a day to celebrate kindness, resilience, and the positive impact of women in our communities.

At Portena, we take this opportunity to express gratitude to the many women who inspire us; our students, teachers, staff, and families. Their dedication and achievements help create a welcoming and supportive environment for all.

On this special day, we encourage everyone to reflect on the values of respect, collaboration, and appreciation for one another. Happy International Women’s Day!

Welcome back girls!

We are delighted to welcome everyone back from the February break, refreshed and ready for the new term ahead! It’s wonderful to see the house buzzing with energy once again.

Over the break, some of our girls embarked on an unforgettable school trip to Iceland, where they explored stunning landscapes, from breathtaking waterfalls to majestic glaciers and geysers. Others embraced the beauty of the Swiss Alps, enjoying the crisp mountain air and exhilarating slopes of Crans-Montana. Whether traveling far or staying closer to home, we hope everyone had a fantastic time recharging and making wonderful memories.

As we settle back into our routines, let’s carry the spirit of adventure and relaxation into the weeks ahead. Wishing you all a successful and fulfilling term!
