Sunny Sunday Skimming Stones

(Excuse the alliteration – it was too tempting!)

Winter in Geneva has taken a very tropical turn and the temperature has been very very mild. In order to make the most of the sun before the snow and ice return, the girls of Old Portena joined with the boys of Concha and went for a nice stroll down to the lakeside and enjoyed the fresh air and had a stone skimming competition.

The leaders were Aykhan, Humoud, and Mr Josh who managed to bounce the stones up to 8 times across the water!

Ceilidh Dancing Time!

A ceilidh (kay-lee) is a Scottish dance party where we dance in partners and in small groups to traditional Scottish music. Miss Becky has been teaching us some of the dances over the past two weeks. We started with the Gay Gordons last week – this week, we learnt the Military Two Step!

Special mentions go to Mariia, Valeriia, and Anastasia who have picked up the dances very quickly and worked well with their dance partners from Concha!

Congratulations girls!

The girls won the dest dressed competition at the Black and White Dinner when they dressed up as zebras. Their prize was a free delivery of tuck shop. They voted to put some of it into our tuckshop at half price and then to have a party with the rest of it!

Halloween Preparations

Today during our House Activity time, the girls made Halloween themed decorations for Old Portena!

Welcome dinner

Last night, all boarding students were invited to the welcome assembly and dinner. This was a chance to dress up nicely, be welcomed back into the boarding community, and eat some tasty food from around the world whilst listening to some Jazz music.

A very enjoyable evening was had by all – many thanks to those who helped to organise it!

Induction Activities

Our activities manager, Diego, kindly organised some activities for the students in boarding to help the new boarders make some new friends both within their own house and with other houses.

First up was the activities afternoon!

Thankfully, the sun was shining and the girls were able to enjoy some volleyball and frisbee. When the heat was a little too much, the shade provided a welcome resting spot for them to chat to the other students.

Next up, the treasure hunt!

Despite the rainy weather, the girls donned their jackets and took part in the treasure hunt. They were given clues about a certain location in the school campus. The aim was to get to the location, find the next clue to decode and race to the following location. We tried our best, and finished the race in Concha for some social time with the other House teams.

Thank you!

We would like to thank Diego for organising such fun afternoons for us this week, and to the girls for working well as a team to take part in them
