International Dinner – China!

Dear all,

This evening, we were treated to some incredible Chinese cuisine! The menu had a wide variety of options, including crispy prawns (a very popular choice!), stir-fried beef, sweet and sour chicken, vegetables with tofu, mountains of noodles and rice, and to top it off, pineapple fritters for dessert.

This meal seemed to be a favorite among students, with many going back for second plates. Adding to our experience were chili crisp oil and dipping sauce, making this meal especially delicious. Plus, we all got to practice our chopstick skills!

An interesting fact about China: did you know it is the largest nation in the world that has only one time zone?

International Dinner: An Australian Adventure!

Tonight, we were treated to an incredible Australian-inspired meal for our weekly International Dinner.

The menu consisted of tender lamb in a savoury sauce, potato gratin, and a special Roquette vegetable pie. For dessert, we enjoyed chantilly crème with an assortment of fruits in syrup as a topping.

A fun fact about Australia: the country is as wide as the distance between London and Moscow!

International Dinner – Belgium

Dear all,

Tonight, we were treated to a Belgian feast!

The menu for this International Dinner included iconic Belgian delicacies, such as Moules Frites, a dish comprised of steamed mussels and crispy French fries, Chicory Gratin with Edam cheese, braised Swiss chard, and of course, delicious Belgian waffles with whipped cream and a berry compote to top it off.

A fun fact about Belgium: did you know it has approximately 3,000 castles? Some are still lived in today!

Check out some photos of our Belgian banquet below, and be sure to keep an eye out for next week’s International Dinner – Australia!

Monthly Assembly!

Tonight was a very special night for the CDL boarding community, as we attended a wonderful and thought-provoking monthly assembly. To start, the assembly opened with a beautiful piano piece performed by by Nikolai from Léman boarding house. Each monthly assembly starts with a performance, and tonight’s was absolutely phenomenal.

Next, we heard two wonderful speeches by two incredible members of the boarding staff, Mr. Gordon W. and Mr. Ronan G. Mr. Gordon spoke about the importance of respect, and with a powerful activity that involved the audience, demonstrated the way rumours can spread, and why we should focus solely on what people themselves tell us about themselves.

To follow, Mr. Ronan gave a heartfelt and impactful speech about his experience growing up in Ireland, and how inspiring and powerful the sense of community and kindness is here at CDL, with students from all over the world forming life-long friendships, no matter where they come from.

We also received an important update about upcoming trips from our boarding activity coordinator, Mr. Mike Brinkmeyer. Please find below a link to our online trips booklet, and be sure to register your student’s interest in any trips as soon as possible!

To top it all off, we enjoyed a fantastic presentation delivered by Roberto, a student from Terray 31 boarding house, who is a Mexican national. He shared about Mexico’s diverse culture, and taught us about Mexico’s Independence Day, which happened to be today! ¡Viva México!

Overall it was a wonderful assembly, with so many thought-provoking speeches enjoyed by the audience. We look forward to next month’s assembly!

Much love,
