Happy Luna New Year!🐲🐉
Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar.
A number of the girls in Villa du Lac celebrate the Luna new year and we asked them to share with us some of their traditions and insights.
One such tradition is to make dumplings, by wishing for a prosperous and lucky year. They explained how each New Year is linked to one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac and 2025 is the Year of the sixth animal in the zodiac cycle: the Snake, which symbolises wisdom, elegance and intuition.
This evening Kiki and Katia, took center stage at their class music concert. As part of their music class, both Kiki and Katia played key roles in setting the tone for the evening, performing together as part of a dynamic group.
Kiki on the guitar and Katia playing the piano kicked off the concert with an energising introduction song. As part the opening group , they gave the audience a taste of what was to come—an evening full of stunning performances from talented singers and musicians alike.
The evening was filled with warmth and joy as teachers, friends, and family gathered to support the performers. It was an enjoyable and memorable event for all, with the perfect balance of talent, camaraderie, and community.
Well done, Katia and Kiki, for your exceptional performance!
Well it has been yet another busy weekend for the Villa du Lac girls!!!
The grade 11s and 12s headed up the mountain to Crans Montana for a weekend on the slopes!! Whether skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, sledging or bowling, a wonderful time was had by all. For some it was their first experience in the alps, and Crans Montana did not disappoint with beautiful weather and views all around. Here’s a peak at what they got up to!
Meanwhile, back at the ranch (aka Villa du Lac), the grade 9s and 10s enjoyed a slightly more relaxing weekend with a variety of activities and the chance for our newest students – Elena, Sophia and Rochelle – to get to know their peers and their surroundings a little bit better.
Obligatory Saturday shopping trips in Geneva completed, we changed the pace with a quiet evening art session to create a few more beautifully painted mugs – kudos to Elena for her flag game, and Rochelle for her patience and attention to detail!
On Sunday, a number of the girls took the chance to test their balance as they skated around the local Versoix ice rink before coming home to the peace and tranquility of a very quiet House, and baking a huge batch of brownies to welcome back the grade 11s and 12s.
We finished the weekend off by celebrating Lucia’s birthday with our freshly baked brownies and a delicious cheesecake before everyone tumbled in to bed, ready to start the new week.
Here’s wishing you all a fabulous week ahead!
The Villa du Lac Team 😊
This weekend we are celebrating Lucia’s 17th birthday!!
We hope you have had a fabulous weekend Lucia and we hope the year ahead will be filled with joy and happiness 😊
With love from all of us in VDL xxx
Tonight, we enjoyed our traditional “Dinner at Home”, this time with a French twist. The students shared a delicious meal of sandwiches and fries, recreating the cozy atmosphere of a big family gathering. 🥰
After dinner, the fun continued with board games, filling the house with laughter and great memories. Now, everyone is excitedly getting ready for our upcoming Ski Weekend—ready for new snowy adventures! 🎿❄️
What a special way to end the day! ✨

This weekend, while some of our students enjoyed an exciting getaway to the mountains, those who stayed at school didn’t miss out on the fun. We had a variety of activities. From a cooking session to an unforgettable afternoon on the ice-skating rink, every moment was full of laughter, learning and new experiences.
The activities not only allowed students to relax and enjoy their free time, but also encourage teamwork, creativity, and self-confidence. It’s wonderful to see how they take advantages of these opportunities to learn and grow outside the classroom!
We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and participation in every activity.
Thank you for this weekend.

This weekend, we had the pleasure of enjoying our first Ski Weekend of the year in the stunning Crans-Montana resort. With sunny skies and perfect weather, our students had the opportunity to hit the slopes for skiing and snowboarding. For those who preferred other activities, there was ice skating, multi-sports, thrilling sledding runs, and even bowling. Evenings at the hotel were just as exciting, with board games and a lively bingo session that brought us all together.
What truly makes these experiences special is the incredible sense of community that defines boarding school life. Spending these days off-campus allowed us to strengthen our bonds, create unforgettable memories, and share moments as one big family. It was a fantastic weekend, leaving us all eager for more adventures ahead!

Today we celebrate Serafina’s birthday. We are so blessed to be celebrating her 16th birthday with her. Have a lovely day. Lots of love from all of us.
Welcome back to a new semester!
We hope the holidays were a chance to recharge and enjoy special moments with your loved ones. Now it’s time to look ahead and start the year with enthusiasm.
The new year bring with many interesting traditions from different countries. In Spain and in Mexico, 12 grapes are eaten in sync with the midnight chimes to bring good luck. In Russia, it’s common to write resolutions on paper, burn it, and mix the ashes into a glass of champagne. In Brazil, wearing white symbolizes peace, and jumping over seven waves on the beach is believed to bring good wishes. In Italy, fireworks light up the night as a symbol of celebration. Soon, we will celebrate the Chinese New Year, a special occasion to learn more about this rich and meaningful tradition.
And this weekend, we are kicking off with Ski Weekend! It’s a perfect way to start the second semester with energy and togetherness.
