World cancer day

Every year, 4th February is dedicated to spreading awareness about one of the deadliest diseases in the world – Cancer! This year, the tag line or theme so to say, is ‘Not Beyond Us’. It calls for a bolstered attempt at spreading awareness and highlights the importance of ‘early detection’.

According to world cancer day’s official website, solutions to curb cancer exist and are within our reach. World Cancer Day is a unique opportunity to raise awareness that there is much that can be done at an individual, community and governmental level, to harness and mobilise these solutions and catalyse positive change.

In order to stay protected and keep cancer at bay, there are a few things you must keep in mind:

1) Avoid Carcinogens

Carcinogens are substances that can damage or disrupt our body’s cellular metabolic process. One of the most common ways through which carcinogens can affect our body is through smoking, chewing tobacco, binge drinking etc.

Foods which protect against cancer

3) Brighten up your plate with colour

What if games could help us to a brighter future?

TED-logo

“Games like World of Warcraft give players the means to save worlds, and incentive to learn the habits of heroes. What if we could harness this gamer power to solve real-world problems? Jane McGonigal says we can, and explains how.”

This TED talk, from 2010, points out an interesting argument about the continuously growing gamers society: what if the skills gamers use in virtual worlds, could be implemented in real world situations?

Christmas Dance

The whole boarding community had a Christmas dance and dinner last night at the Kempinsky hotel. We arrived there around 6.30, everyone was wearing nice clothes and looking very classy which was appropriate for the situation. We had great dinner with our friends and afterwards we heard few speeches from the head of boarding and our fellow students.

This was my first time being a part of this occasion and personally I found it very enjoyable. I had great time with my boarding mates and shared good times and many laughs. It was a nice change from the normal school routine and of course the food was much better there.

I enjoy this tradition that the boarding community has and I hope that it will be there for the new boarders in the future for them to enjoy as well.
